Biography

Jazz and experimental music drummer born in Caralunya.

He started playing drums at eleven years old, taking lessons from different drummers based in Barcelona: Jo Krause, Salvador Niebla, Peer Wyboris, Jorge Rossy, Aldo Caviglia or David Xirgu, among others. In 2001, "Uri" moves to The Netherlands and stays there for 5 years, studying in The Hague’s Royal Conservator, graduating in 2006.

He is currently playing in different jazz and improvised music bands in Belgium, France, The Netherlands and Spain with musicians such as Jeroen Van Herzeele, Ben Sluijs, Giovanni di Domenico, Eric Vermeulen, Manolo Cabras, David Mengual, Giulia valle, Alexandra Grimal, Augusto Pirodda, Vrak’ Trio, Joan Diaz, Didier Labbé, Dani Pérez, Riccardo Luppi, Ben Sluijs, Lynn Cassiers, david xirgu, Paolo Angeli and many others.

Beside his career as jazz musician, Oriol Roca works as well as studio musician for artists such as singer-songwriter Refree or Spanish hip hop icon Mala Rodriguez, among many others. He has also work together with spanish pop-rock artists Amaral, American producer and composer Dave Bianchi, folkloric singer Martirio, American singer-songwriter Amanda Jayne or with the self-defined “galactical” Catalan artist Jaume Sisa. Currently living in Barcelona, where he co-founded CREA improvisation collective in 2007, he is working with the contemporary dance company Lanònima Imperial in its latest show: “Nuevas oportunidades de fracaso”. He is been invited to play as well with Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Navarra and Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra.
